Idk, for him to suddenly "find his happiness, leave the battlefield" and be content with the domestic life doesn't sit well with me. This guy? (I believe these are from the voltron coalition handbook) It did affect Shiro's character because we know him as Shiro the hero, the guy who lives to protect people, the guy who thinks there's nothing more fulfilling than being a Paladin?

I loved the series with my whole heart but I can't really reconcile with season 8 and the ending epilogue. For those of us who clung to Shiro's character as a core male gay character in the series I can't help but feel disappointed even though this is really suppose to be a groundbreaking moment for animation. The only other moment he got was in the arm wrestling competition, in which he still didn't even have any familial interaction with his team. on top of that, Shiro had a lot of pivotal character arcs still completely ignored at the end and frankly he felt inconsequential in s8 except for the final episode. but honestly it doesn't feel like a meaningful conclusion to shiro's arc when it feels like this epilogue came at the expense of his character. I respect that they really pushed for this ending, and you cannot objectively say that in a Y-7 show, showing this gay wedding isn't needed and isn't important. You guys got worked up over a cartoon and tried to make it about race because racial issues have overshadowed LGBT issues so complaining about dumb artificial race shit is your main source of building materials for the shitty pedestal you're trying to build for yourself. Right now in 2018, outside of a very small group of people in the US, most people don't give a shit about LGBTs. This is decades in the future so a gay wedding shouldn't be an issue at that point in time. Appealing to a tiny group of people doesn't sell, it doesn't have staying power, it doesn't do much for most people, it usually doesn't even have a good plot since it's characters are just caricatures of stereotypes.Ĭontext is important. The feelings of the minority (literally the minority) should be an afterthought. In the end, what actually matters is a good show, with good story and characters, wraps up nicely. That's on them for being so boring and trying to pander. The writers and designers chose to apply modern day human race to an alien species.

You shouldn't have to relate to a fictional cartoon character because of physical traits like skin color (again, unimaginative). Making alien races less alien and more human for panic attack fetish adults is not only lazy writing, but also incredibly unimaginative. People relate to rocks that have mud on them.
